Mississippi Smile

Dylan "Mississippi Smile" DuPont

Dylan "Mississippi Smile" DuPont is an emerging Americana/Folk artist whose songwriting is quickly gaining recognition throughout Texas and beyond. In 2025, Dylan was named Runner-Up for both Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year by the Houston Songwriters Association.

His work has also earned national recognition through the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), where two of his original songs received the coveted "One to Watch" designation—an honor awarded to writers whose songs demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship and commercial potential. In addition, one of his songs earned placement on the prestigious Bob Kingsley Top 40, further highlighting Dylan's emergence as a compelling new voice in the next generation of American storytellers.

In October 2026, Dylan is scheduled to open for Grammy-nominated folk duo Trout Fishing in America at the 04 Center in Austin, Texas. The opportunity marks another significant milestone in his young career and reflects the growing recognition he is receiving within the folk and Americana music community.

Dylan's musical journey began at age eight when he picked up his father's guitar and learned the only three chords his dad knew. After a year of formal lessons, he continued developing his skills independently through YouTube tutorials, ear training, and countless hours of practice. By age eleven, he had discovered a passion for singing, laying the foundation for a career built on heartfelt emotion, lyrical honesty, and genuine human connection.

The nickname "Mississippi Smile" was given to him by a fellow musician during an open mic night and quickly stuck. The name captures both Dylan's infectious smile and his personal connection to Mississippi, where he spent a decade traveling regularly for orthodontic appointments.

Dylan's performing career took a meaningful turn during the reopening period following the COVID-19 pandemic, when he played his first public performances. Since then, he has steadily built a loyal following throughout the Greater Houston area and along the Texas Gulf Coast. Influenced by legendary storytellers such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Turnpike Troubadours, Dylan blends timeless songwriting traditions with a fresh, contemporary perspective.

Whether performing an intimate acoustic ballad or a crowd-pleasing singalong, Dylan delivers each song with authenticity and conviction. His evocative lyrics, expressive guitar work, and distinctive voice create performances that resonate long after the final note fades.

As the League City Folk Association described him:

"This young man is a joy to watch as he shares his love of story and song."

Today, you'll find Dylan performing throughout Houston, Conroe, Spring, Tomball, Waller, Montgomery, Willis, Magnolia, League City, Galveston, and surrounding communities—continuing to hone his craft and connect with audiences one song at a time.
